Meet Stephen Snyder
I crafted my first piece of leather in the summer 1969. I was 14 years old at the time ad fashioned a leather ring for my sister’s birthday gift. Today, I still have a passion for working with leather. In particular, I enjoy working with yellow latigo. The variance of texture and grain are magnified when analine dyes are applied with different techniques and the results can be vibrant tans and oranges to deep browns or subtle dark russets. Latigo requires minimal maintenance, is very resilient and enhances with use. Bags are hand-stitched, giving a durable subtle seam and shape. The possibilities of utilizing the natural unique features of a hide, shape, form and functionality are endless. Vegetable tanned leathers and rawhides also have unique characteristics and I enjoy exploring and experiment with them.
Today, my primary focus is on bags and planters. In the near future I hope to expand my offerings by resuming sandal-making, belts and something a little different.
